The Littles

"There was a secret look-out place behind the light switch in the hall of the Biggs' house.  One of the screws was missing.  The empty hole was large enough for a Little to look and listen through.  Mr. Little spent all the next day at the look-out place.  Tom Little stayed with him.  They were waiting for the Newcombs."
The Littles are very much like any other people except that they are only a few inches tall and have long tails.  They live in the walls of the Biggs' house.  But now the Biggs are going away on vacation and the house is under new management.  Will the Littles still be safe or will they be found out?  Or worse, what if the new people have a cat?

Why I Love It

Although it is a lower level book with a matching simple structure, I love that the story and characters found in The Littles is compelling and exciting.  Even today, it is a story I am happy to read again.

You Should Know

This is the first book in a series.  There are many more adventures as the Littles visit other families, rescue their crazy cousin, and face other dangers in a world ten times their size.

Talking Points

  • How were the Littles like people you see every day?  How were they different?
  • What are some dangers the Littles face living in a world of people so much bigger that they are?
  • What are some of the problems the Littles face in this story?  What are some of the solutions the Littles come up with to fix their problems?
  • What part of the story did you think was the most exciting?
