The Jolly Postman or Other People's Letters

"Once upon a bicycle,
So they say,
A Jolly Postman came one day
From over the hills
And far away...
With a letter for the Three Bears"
Follow the Jolly Postman as he makes his rounds and delivers letters to the Three Bears, the Wicked Witch, Cinderella, and other familiar friends.  Each of the letters is tucked inside a pocket page so you get to sneak a peek inside their mail.

Why I Love It

A fun, repetitive (but not annoying) rhyme matched with getting to read mail belonging to fantasy characters.  What's not to love?  The best part is reading all of the different little letters.  My favorite was always the Wicked Witch's catalog page.

You Should Know

Like many interactive books, pop-up books for instance, this book is a little more fragile than your usual paperback.  At our house, this book lived on the top shelf and only came out with parental supervision so the little ones didn't rip the envelopes out or lose the letters.

Talking Points

  • Discuss the different types of letters.  Enjoy opening the letters you get in the mail or write a letter to Grandma.
  • Can you think of another fairy tale story you know?  What types of letters might someone from that story get from the Jolly Postman?
